Coronavirus: Portal busy as 60% of slots booked in two hours

Almost 60 per cent of vaccination appointments available for 22 to 24-year-olds were booked within two hours of the opening of the portal on Friday without any interruptions due to technical issues, the health ministry.

Out of the 16,932 vaccination appointments available, 9,976 were booked between 7.30 and 9.30am.

The portal will remain open until 5.30pm, the health ministry reminded youths.

No technical problems were reported early on Friday, following an update of the portal the previous day.

Cyprus has a target to vaccinate about 60 per cent of the population eligible for vaccination with at least with one dose by the end of June. As of Wednesday, 41.3 per cent had received the first dose and another 12.8 have completed their vaccination, bringing the total to 400,004 people, the ministry said.

People aged 50 to 55 who have so far failed to book a vaccination appointment will have another chance to do so on Saturday, between 7.30am and 5.30pm.

On Sunday, the portal will open for those aged 56 to 58, between 7.30am and 5.30pm.
