Man 21, arrested after causing traffic accident in Paphos

Police said on Wednesday they arrested a 21-year-old man after causing an accident in Kato Paphos and abandoning the scene.

The suspect was allegedly driving on Eleftherios Venizelou Avenue at 10pm on Tuesday when his car crashed into the one in front. As a result, the 23-year-old woman driver of the second car hit a 49-year-old female pedestrian.

The two women were taken to Paphos general hospital, where they received first aid. The older woman, who was slightly injured, was kept at the health facility as a precaution.

About an hour after the accident, the 21-year-old, who had initially fled, returned to the scene while officers were investigating and owned up, police said.

According to police, the suspect was driving without insurance and had an expired tax disc. The car also did not have a recent ΜΟΤ.

He tested negative for alcohol.
