As the heat wave continues to grip Cyprus, the met office has issued a new extreme high temperature warning for Thursday when temperatures are expected to reach 41C inland and 33C over the Troodos highest peaks.

The yellow alert is in force from 1.00 pm to 4.00 pm.

In its weather forecast for Thursday, the met office said that the weather will be mainly fine with temperatures of 41C inland, around 36C on the north coast, 34C on the remaining coasts and 33C in the mountains.

Friday, Saturday and Sunday will also be mainly fine with local patchy fog and low cloud on the coasts late at night and early in the morning.

Temperatures will remain stable at noticeably higher than the seasonal average, especially inland and in the mountains, it added.

Highest temperatures at 3.00pm on Wednesday were Nicosia 42C, Larnaca Airport 35C, Limassol 32C, Paphos Airport 31C, Frenaros 35C, Prodromos 33C and Polis Chrysochous 34C.

Humidity ranged from 18 per cent in Nicosia to 69 per cent at Paphos Airport.
