€4000 fine for contraband tobacco

A 30-year-old man was fined €4000 after police found illegal tobacco products at his premises in Limassol.

Acting on a tip off, police said they had searched the premises on Friday morning where they found and confiscated 26 cartons of cigarettes, four cartons of tobacco, 28 cartons of hookah tobacco and another three kilos of hookah tobacco.

The man was taken to the police station where a customs official determined that the products did not have the required labels.
