The met office on Thursday renewed a yellow weather warning over high temperatures.
According to the warning, high temperatures are expected from Thursday 9pm until Friday 5pm.
The minimum temperature expected on Thursday evening is 27 degrees Celsius on the southeast and east coastal areas. On Friday the maximum temperature is expected to rise to 41C inland, around 35C on the west coast, 37C on the rest of the coastal areas and around 33C in the higher mountainous areas.
In the meantime, Kitas weather reports that the island is being affected by the smoke and ash from the wildfires raging on the southern coast of Turkey.
“Due to the strong winds blowing in the lower troposphere, smoke and ash from the fire, north of Kyrenia, is following a southern course affecting the eastern half of the island,” the weather website said.
It added in some areas in Cyprus a smell of smoke is in the air. If the fires do not subside, this could be more intense later in the day when the winds around Cyprus die down.
