Customs seize over 80,000 illegal cigarettes in July

The customs department seized over 27 kilos of cannabis at Larnaca airport and confiscated 81,360 cigarettes for which no duty was paid during the month of July.

On top of that, they also seized over 73 kilos of loose tobacco, 3,060 tobacco sticks and 1,474 items which violate intellectual property rights such as clothing, footwear, bags, wallets, sunglasses and perfumes.

The department also confiscated three vehicles, two of which were used to transport cigarettes and tobacco from the north, as well as various items subject to restrictions such as protective masks, medicines, dairy products, seeds, counterfeit electronic devices, toys, headphones, welding machines, wigs, medical equipment, electronic cigarettes, and liquid and components for electronic cigarettes.

Most of the cases were settled out of court, the customs department added.
