Besides the Elvis impersonations and ABBA tribute shows, which have practically disappeared since the pandemic started, Protaras’ live music scene also offers evenings showcasing local sounds. Numerous bars now have young, local musicians and guests who perform a variety of repertoires and entertain holidaymakers – locals and tourists alike. This weekend at Koursaros Bar in Protaras, two musicians are to play on Friday and Saturday.

Friday’s gig will be by Cypriot singer and musician Sais (also known as Savvakis) who will perform solo at the bar starting at 9.30pm with a €3 music cover charge. Then, on Saturday, the well-known and beloved musician Demetris Mesimeris will return to Koursaros’ verandah for a solo acoustic performance playing a mix of traditional songs, folk and pop music as well as Demetris’ own music. Demetris has taken off in recent years and is often a regular at several bars around the island. One of his other standard venues is Kafeneio To Leoforio in Nicosia, where he will return for another end-of-the-summer performance on August 24.
