Coronavirus: Police have lost first member of the force to Covid

Police on Friday announced the loss of the first member of the force from coronavirus.

Sergeant Stelios Panayiotou died at the age of 58 in Nicosia.

“Police are mourning the death of our colleague Sergeant Stelios Panayiotou, 58 years old, from Larnaca. He was known as a devoted officer who served the force for  24 years, in various services and departments,” the announcement said

Panayiotou had recently been intubated at the Nicosia General Hospital.

“Police express their deep sorrow and their sincere condolences and support to his family,” the announcement concluded.
