Two years jail for starting fire that destroyed 3 sq km

A 62-year-old man was jailed for two years on Monday after he was found guilty of starting a fire in Limassol in August last year.

The man was charged in connection with a fire in Ayios Amvrosios, Limassol on the morning of August 17, 2020. The fire burned three square kilometres of pine trees, bush, and wild vegetation.

The defendant was found in the area where the blaze started with police later gathering evidence that he was involved.

On Monday morning, the Limassol district court jailed the man for two years.
