How do you bounce back into this fast-changing life right now? Can you move through challenges with the lightness of being and in what way do you restore stamina, enthusiasm and trust? An upcoming movement workshop in Nicosia will address these questions. Led by coach and psychotherapist Anita Michaelides on Saturday, the workshop will take place at Dancehouse Lefkosia and invites all individuals and abilities, as long as they are above 18 years old.
Titled Rebound/Movement Practice Workshop, the three-hour event is not so much about dance as somatic movement. Participants are invited to join in whatever state and thought process they are in at the time be it curiosity, uncertainty or sadness. Nothing is rejected or denied.
“In this workshop, we will move into creative inquiry, learning tools for everyday living,” writes the event’s description. Inviting softening to the body’s confusion over fear and loss, enabling shifts to lighten perspective and ensure wellbeing. The workshop will tap into (or learn if it’s your first time) improvisational skills, experiencing presence and self-compassion.
No matter what your experience or what shape you’re in, the group dynamics will support your process. Be prepared to surprise yourself at how you can go beyond what you know, to discover new dimensions of that deeply sourced, innate resiliency you already possess.
The process involves a gentle warm-up, body awareness, grounding, centring, aligning, easy mindful movement within the group and its dynamics. It concludes with exploring and visualising the outcome each participant seeks through expressive improvisation. “My intention is for you to leave revitalised with a new sense of self,” says Anita, adding the workshop is to be a fun, creative and sensitive practice for all.
