Coronavirus: 14 people fined after 2,644 checks

Police on Thursday said they fined 14 people in 24 hours for violating coronavirus measures, after 2,644 inspections island wide.

Most checks, which were carried out between 6am on Wednesday and 6am on Thursday, were conducted in Nicosia where officers booked one person following 929 inspections.

Four people were booked in Limassol after 280 checks, while another four were fined in Paphos after 124 checks and two in Larnaca following 655 checks.

Famagusta officers carried out 469 inspections and identified three people violating the measures, while in Morphou, no violations were recorded after 23 checks.

Traffic, marine and port police also carried out 152 and 12 checks respectively without any bookings.

Breaches in coronavirus protocols include among others, failure to wear a face mask or carry a SafePass.
