The Animal Party on Friday urged the government to give land to a dog shelter in the Nicosia district which is facing permanent closure due to serious financial difficulties.

“For some time we have made efforts to find suitable land for a dog shelter in Nicosia that is facing closure and that will be forced to move the animals to other shelters, but to no avail,” the party said.

The Animal Party also thanked Agriculture Minister Costas Kadis “for understanding the seriousness of the situation” and for sending a detailed letter about it to Interior Minister Nicos Nouris.

“However, the issue still remains and there is a high risk that the shelter will be forced to close, which will result in dogs being left without proper care, shelter and love,” The Animal Party said.

“The state has an obligation to do its part to solve this unfortunate situation,” it added.
