Motorbike driver nine times over alcohol limit has license suspended (updated)

A 37-year-old man had his license suspended on Monday after he was found driving a motorcycle almost nine times over the alcohol limit on Sunday night in Ayia Napa.

The man, who is a resident of Ayia Napa, was arrested by the Famagusta traffic police, who stopped his motorcycle for a routine check around 8.40pm.

The preliminary alcohol test showed 111μg instead of the maximum limit of 9μg for new drivers, while the final reading was 80μg, police said.

On Monday, the man was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and driving without a protective helmet.

Famagusta district court also suspended his license until the hearing of the case on November 10 this year.
