The Nicosia Pop Up Festival is coming back once again this winter, along Makarios Avenue and in the old town, aiming to showcase and promote creative and innovative ideas in various fields and test them in real market conditions.

As such an an open call for proposals has been made by the Nicosia Municipality for use of the vacant shops in the City Plaza and events at Theatro Polis-OPAP to be held from November 27 to December 31, the run of the festival.

The main objective of the festival is to support the local community by gathering in the commercial centre of Nicosia all things innovative, inventive and creative in the fields of entrepreneurship, entertainment, culture and education.

As always, the festival will be accompanied by a range of parallel activities – educational, cultural and recreational – focusing on the active participation of the public. The Open Call will look at six types of proposals: Innovation proposals concerning innovative ideas from new companies and start-ups as well as new services; Commerce proposals by professionals or young entrepreneurs and artists in relation to retail trade; Art proposals relating to arts and culture events and performances as well as proposals of educational interest such as workshops, courses, lectures and other related activities.

Food and Drink services from licensed food vendors dealing with street food can also join the Open Call as a number of stalls will be granted throughout the duration of the festival. Finally, young and emerging musicians may submit their proposals for the Open Stage programme, which will be set up in the basement of City Plaza, adding a musical tune to the festival.

The main criterion for selecting the proposals will be innovation in products, services and practices. For this year’s festival, the Nicosia Tourism Board in its effort to strengthen culturally creative enterprises will award a prize of best participation worth €500 in the category Innovation in Culture and Creativity, as well as the prize of best participation worth €500 in the category Trade in Culture and Creativity.

Proposals should be submitted either in person at the offices of NiMAC by Friday, October 29 or in electronic form, to [email protected].
