Open University talk on ‘credibility revolution’ in economics

The Open University of Cyprus is organising an open online talk in English on the “credibility revolution” in economics.

Empirical approaches in Social Sciences: The case of the ‘Credibility Revolution’ in Economics will be presented by Dr. Robert Duval Hernández, assistant professor and academic coordinator of the postgraduate programme in “Management, Technology and Quality” at the economics department of the Open University of Cyprus.

It will be delivered at 6.30pm this Thursday, October 21.

The talk will present a broad non-technical overview of the main empirical approaches used nowadays in economics, with a special emphasis on the so-called “credibility revolution”.

Hernández will discuss several of the methodologies that are at the centre of the research that was awarded the 2021 Sveriges Riksbank Prize in Economic Sciences in Memory of Alfred Nobel. These empirical methodologies seek to establish causal relationships with the use of non-experimental data, and, because of this, they are applicable in other fields beyond economics.

The English-language presentation will be of main interest to students, researchers and academics in the fields of economic sciences.

Previous to joining the Open University of Cyprus, Dr. Duval Hernández served as an assistant professor in economics at CIDE, Mexico, as a post-doctoral fellow at the Centre for US-Mexican Studies at UCSD, and as a visiting assistant professor at the University of Cyprus.

His research focuses on economic inequality and mobility, labour economics, and economic growth.
