jazzologia big band

The live music scene in Paphos is buzzing! And since the summer, local bands, musicians, tribute acts, classical music concerts and all that jazz have been keeping Paphos residents and visitors entertained. This week and the following, two musical performances are taking place, offering unique musical sounds and experiences.

Bringing the lively, uplifting sounds of South America is the Caipirinha Brazilian Project. This new band specialises in Latin styles of music, playing toe-tapping, dancing tunes. On Sunday the band will be at Saint Giorgio restaurant for a live daytime performance starting at 2pm. Alice Ayvazian as the lead singer, with Alexis Kasinos on guitar, Alexandros Panagiotou on bass and Marios Spyrou on drums will bring the exotic sounds of Bossa Nova, samba and many more to Chlorakas this Sunday.

Come November and the 16-piece Jazzologia Big Band will perform a special concert at the Annabelle Hotel. Created in October 2016 by renowned saxophonist George Krasidis, the band is a collective and voluntary effort of 16 great musicians with a common characteristic of their love of jazz and traditional big band music. The repertoire of the Jazzologia Cyprus Big Band consists of historical compositions and orchestrations by the pioneers of Big Band Music including Duke Ellington, Frank Sinatra, Count Basie, Glenn Miller, Buddy Rich, Herbie Hancock, Michael Buble and many other greats but also more contemporary works written for orchestras of this particular type.

On November 7 the band will perform some standards from the 20th century, featuring classic pieces from the 30s and onwards, Swing, Latin, Funk with the participation of renowned jazz singer George Kalopedis. Audiences will also hear adaptations of traditional Cypriot songs arranged by Cypriot composer Aris Antoniades composed specifically for Jazzologia in what is promised to be a joyous, groovy evening.
