Two flights set to land at Larnaca airport on Saturday night were diverted as heavy rain led to poor visibility, while the downpour caused a leak at the airport’s check-in area.

The flights were arriving from Luton and Liverpool, respectively, with a total of 171 passengers, and were diverted to Paphos airport.

A spokesperson for Hermes Airports told CNA that due to the strong rains in the area surrounding Larnaca airport, the gutters on the roof overflowed, causing water to leak into the check-in area.

Measures were taken immediately so as not to affect the airport’s operations, the spokesperson was quoted as saying.
