Bringing drag shows to Nicosia

nicole nasty

Nicosia is getting its very own regular drag queen show! Jokes, wigs, glitter, performances and plenty of sass are coming to town as a new show aims at elevating the city’s nightlife. Greek drag queen DouKISSa will be travelling to Cyprus every first Sunday of the month for unforgettable shows at DownTown Live, each time joined by a fellow drag queen. The first show is coming up this Sunday and it will be a night of extravagant fun, commentary and music.

Though drag queen shows are not new, they are a sort of first for Cyprus standards. Besides the pop-up performances at the annual Pride events, drag queens haven’t had a dedicated place on the island so far so this new show series comes to turn everything upside down and pave the way for queer performances.

The monthly shows at Downtown Live will be the first time a night venue in Cyprus hosts regular drag queen acts. Joining DouKISSa in her inaugural performance at the Nicosia club is another queen from Greece by the name of Nicole Nasty. In Greece, both drag queens have a rather large following and perform regularly at venues in Athens. In Nicosia, the two will entertain audiences in a show that is expected to run until around midnight.

Costumer changes, feathers, colourful makeup, punchlines, songs and all the usual drag queen style entertainment can be expected as the show attempts to bring Cypriot audiences closer to the drag queen world. All for just €10 a ticket.
