New arrest in connection with stolen bullets

Police on Friday arrested a 32-year-old man in connection with the theft of guns and thousands of bullets from a container in Limassol as a 27-year-old suspect was remanded for eight days in connection with the same crime.

According to Limassol CID, an arrest warrant against the 32-year-old was pending since Thursday but was executed on Friday as the suspect was on trial for another case involving burglary and the theft of hunting shotguns.

Meanwhile the 27-year-old, who was being sought for three other serious crimes in Limassol, was remanded for eight days after being found by police in Paphos on Thursday afternoon.

Earlier this week, authorities had located in Limassol a little more than 15,000 bullets reported stolen from a cargo container last month.

Police said these were among the 50,000 shotgun cartridges (worth €11,000) and 114,000 9mm rounds (worth €17,000) stolen sometime between October 5 and 19, from a container owned by a licensed importer.

The bullets were found Wednesday in a metal box buried in a location in the Amathounda area of Limassol along with a loaded revolver and an air rifle.
