Coronavirus: 491 new cases, no deaths (Updated)

New coronavirus infections jumped to 491 on Monday out of 83,155 PCR and rapid tests, a positivity rate of 0.59 per cent.

No deaths were reported.

There are 106 patients in hospital with the virus of whom 32 are in serious condition.

Of the 32 patients, 15 are intubated, two are in the ICU without a ventilator and 15 in the High Dependency Unit.

Of all patients, 65.1 per cent are not vaccinated against Covid.

Three post-Covid patients who are no longer infectious are still intubated in the ICU.

Of the 83,155 tests, 4,564 were PCR and 78,591 rapid tests.

The majority, 285 of the 491 cases came from 51,635 rapid tests performed at private labs and pharmacies, with 89 more found from 26,956 tests performed at health ministry testing sites.

Forty-seven cases came from 1,874 samples taken through private initiative, while 1,056 samples taken through contacts of already confirmed cases turned up 58 positives.

Eleven cases were found among 275 samples processed by hospital labs while 76 samples taken through GP referrals yielded no positives.

In addition, 1,283 samples were taken at airports with one positive.

The total number of positives to date is 130,591.

As there were no deaths, the death toll remains 590, of whom 377 were men and 213 women.
