Paphos welcomes December with live music

beatlove

Just when the festive season was seemingly brimming with events, new measures arrive to dampen the cheery feeling. Nonetheless, live music performances can still take place and that’s always a mood booster. Several local and international bands in Paphos welcome the first week of December with a series of live performances.

Arriving first on Wednesday is a tribute evening to the grand Mikis Theodorakis. Young musicians Marianna Georgiou and Georgia Zachariades will host a recital organised by Technopolis 20, honouring classical pieces of Theodorakis that are rarely performed. From 8pm onwards it will be all about this beloved Greek composer’s music complemented with Kyriakos Costa’s arrangements and a visual intervention by the graphic designer Alexander Sebastian Ignatiou.

On Thursday 2 it is the turn of musicians from abroad. The Beat Love is an authentic Beatles tribute band. Formed in 2013, the band performs Beatles songs with attention to every musical detail and uses the original vintage musical instruments and authentic suits. Having performed all over Europe and the UK, with permission by Sony/ATV Music Publishing to perform songs by The Beatles, the tribute band is coming to Cyprus for the first time. The four professional musicians will perform beloved Beatles songs at Markideio Theatre.

Bringing bluesy sounds to the west coast, The Real Thing Blues Band, one of the most authentic, organic and raw sounding blues bands on the island, will perform a set at Faros Restaurant on Friday December 3. Professional harmonica player Michal Kielak will turn it up a notch as a special guest, and will also accompany the band for their next performance at Saint Giorgio restaurant the following day for a lunchtime gig.

The week will end up with a festive flair as Bierstein Blasmusik Band will bring a Christmas-y Oktoberfest-style feel on Sunday lunch at Saint Giorgio Restaurant.
