Indoor sports facilities at some schools in Larnaca leak every time it rains, despite repairs, officials said Wednesday, impeding the activities of schoolchildren and clubs that use them in the afternoon.

The district’s school board chairman Petros Chrysostomou said every time there is rain, indoor hall roofs leak, despite being repaired numerous times.

“It seems they were not done properly, resulting in the same problem every year,” he said.

Specifically, the roof of the sports hall at Vergina high-school leaks in several places, while water leaked through the seams of the metal roof at Petraki Kyprianou high-school.

The chairman of the secondary education parent federation said it was the same thing each time it rained.

“Sports halls at various schools flood, especially at Vergina lyceum and the technical school. The problem is not resolved despite repairs, and each year there is the same issue,” Costas Costa said.

He said school sports facilities were also used by clubs in the afternoons.

“The situation is unacceptable, and solutions must be found immediately.”

Crews from the education ministry’s technical services were expected to visit the schools on Wednesday to see the problems and discuss how to address them.
