A court in Paphos remanded a 44-year-old man in custody for six days on Tuesday in connection with a hit-and-run in which a woman, 60, was killed.

Police told the court the suspect denied involvement in the incident.

The investigator said at the scene on Priamos Street, police found a left front wheel arch liner that was the same type as the one on the vehicle suspected of being involved in the incident.

The car found outside his home in Mouttalos did not have an arch liner and was also missing the front bumper, police said.

The suspect had been carrying out repairs to the vehicle when it was found by police.

The court heard that a security camera had recorded the incident and authorities had a witness recognising the suspect as the driver of the car.

The suspect told officers that the car belonged to another man, but he had been driving it in the past 10 days because he planned on buying it.

However, he denied driving it on Sunday evening when the incident took place.

A car hit 60-year-old Androulla Papachristoforou who was on foot at around 9.15pm. Security footage showed the driver getting out briefly and then driving off, leaving the woman without help.

She was found and taken to hospital where she died at 11.30pm.
