Open call for dance artists for annual festival

2017 festival 3

We’re in that slightly noiseless time of the year where cultural activity has slowed down, recharging after the Christmas festivities and preparing for the spring and summertime. This is the time however to propose projects, develop new ideas, plan festivals and organise performances. Dance House Lefkosia is doing just that as it invites creators from all artistic fields working with the body and choreography to send proposals for this year’s On_Bodies Festival 2022 which will take place from May 27 to 29.

Similar to last year, the festival will continue with the same two categories, Bodies on Stage and Bodies in the Garden, while also adding Future Bodies. Interested artists or groups can apply with a new proposal or with a piece that premiered in 2021 and selected proposals will perform once during the festival.

For the first category, the organisers welcome works of 15-25 minutes duration to be presented on the main stage of the Dance House. The selected proposals will receive technical support for the performance and 10 hours of free rehearsal time. Five-minute long pieces will be presented in the Bodies in the Garden category in the garden and outdoor area of the Dance House. The proposals that will be selected won’t receive any extra technical support and will be allocated five hours of free rehearsal time.

This newest category concerns mini-lectures, presentations or talks of a maximum of 15 minutes that explore the relation of dance and the future. The presentation can focus on any of the following questions without being limited to them: How do you imagine dance in 2050? What needs to change within the Cypriot dance/performing arts scene in the following years? Why should we keep on dancing? How can my/your/our dance shape the future? Interested parties can apply by emailing their details to the organisers by February 18.
