Learn about non-toxic etching in printmaking

printmaking workshop

A new workshop is coming to Nicosia as soon as February rolls in, inviting experienced and amateur artists to learn about printmaking techniques. The Cyens Thinker Maker Space presents a three-day printmaking workshop on February 1-3 in collaboration with Evgenia Vasiloude and Efklides Papadopoulos, printmakers-artists and founding members of the Cypriot Printmakers Association.

Throughout the three days participants, required to attend all three, will be introduced to different applications of digital image processing and engraving. The printing process although mainly traditional will consist of sustainable as well as experimental aspects, using green and non-toxic materials along with digital fabrication practices.

Cypriot printmaker Vasiloude, who has participated in Biennales and other printmaking exhibitions in Cyprus and abroad will lead the workshop alongside artist Papadopoulos. Aside from printmaking, Efklides is involved in graphics, moving images and video production, and has played an active role in curating printmaking exhibitions in Cyprus and abroad in addition to organised events intended to promote the Cypriot printmaking art.

The workshop will begin with an introductory session going over traditional and digital non-toxic printmaking methodology and practices. Day two and three will be more hands-on as participants test out these non-toxic methods and finally experiment on digital fabrication and printmaking relationships on the last day of the workshop.

The sessions will be held between 3pm and 7pm each day and are free although students may have to pay the cost of any additional paper they will be using during the workshop. No prior knowledge is required to join in although participants just have to bring with them one or two drawings they wish to work with and an appetite to learn!
