Music gigs to get the weekend moving

fuse 1

Post-Christmas mayhem, which is hard to believe was just three weeks ago, January feels a little quieter. Easing back into a routine, trying to stick to New Year’s resolutions and adapting to shorter days tends to find most of us home. Cuddled up on the sofa on a chilly night sounds ideal for January and the events world too has a tendency to slow down this time of year.

Not for long though as in a couple of weeks the Valentine’s Day specials will begin, followed by carnival festivities and before you know it spring will be here. Until then, a couple of musical ensembles are hosting performances this weekend.

Bringing jazz, blues and funk to old Nicosia is the Funked Up Project, which will perform at Tapeo e Vino on Friday at 8.30pm.

The band made its debut on the island just a few years back and is a project started by three friends sharing their love for music. Pavlos Gregoras on vocals, Christos Pechlivanis on vocals and keys and Nickolas Filippou on percussion get together to perform rock, jazz, blues and funk covers. Their upcoming performance at the Nicosia tapas bar will include songs in Greek and English and some original work that is coming soon.

Other cities too will have some live music performances happening on Friday. In Limassol, Stefanos Georgiades will take his loop station project to Poe Bar for a live session starting at 8.30pm while another Limassolian bar will feature sounds from Latin America. A Brazilian live jazz night will take place at Vinylio Wine Etc in Limassol with the music kicking off at half eight.

On Saturday, a more explosive performance will rock Larnaca as the popular band Fuse will be at Savino Live for a gig. From 11pm onwards, the favourite rock five-piece band will take Savino’s stage, for rock music and more!
