High winds cause power outages around the island

High winds across the island on Sunday left certain areas without power since Saturday night, the Electricity Authority (EAC) said.

Areas in Nicosia, Limassol and Paphos were affected.

EAC spokesman Christina Papadopoulou said that faults had also been caused by trees falling on the overhead wires and other items falling on facilities and causing short circuits. Ongoing winds caused new problems to arise throughout the day.

“EAC teams have been out since Saturday and are making efforts to repair the damage as soon as possible, despite the adverse weather conditions,” she said.

Areas affected in Nicosia included Nikitari, Potami, Vyzakia, Mammari, Agros, Engomi, Ayios Dometios and Deftera.

In Limassol areas with cuts included Chandria, Ayias Fylaxeos, Fasoula and Pareklissia. In Paphos areas affected included Peyia, Neo Chorio, Polemi, Anarita and Lemona.
