Woman arrested at Paphos airport with fake passport

A woman from Cameroon was arrested at Paphos airport on Tuesday evening for trying to leave the country with a forged Portuguese passport, police said on Wednesday.

According to Paphos assistant police director Michalis Ioannou, on Tuesday afternoon, passport control spotted the fake as the woman tried to fly to the Netherlands.

The suspect was taken aside for questioning, where she insisted the details on the passport were hers but she was a Cameroonian national.

She said she bought the fake ID card from Turkey from a person unknown to her.

According to Ioannou, based on her real data, the woman was not found on the in the asylum system, nor in the arrival-departure system of the Republic.

She was arrested for forgery, illegal entry and staying illegally in Cyprus and taken to Paphos CID, which is investigating.
