Paphos police on Saturday said the drug squad (Ykan) made two arrests related to drugs offences after placing an apartment complex in Paphos under surveillance.

The arrests were of two men, aged 25 and 40, who were found with drugs in their possession after officers checked their flat.

A small amount of a crystal-like substance that looked like methamphetamine was found in the possession of a 21-year-old woman, who admitted it was for her personal use.

Meanwhile, the 25-year-old man could not offer a satisfactory explanation as to how he had acquired the €890 found in his possession, and both were arrested.

A third person was also seen jumping from the roof onto the balcony of another flat.

Ykan searched the flat after receiving written consent from its 33-year-old tenant and nabbed a 40-year-old man who was later found to be the person who was seen jumping.

On the balcony, they found a black metal box containing several packages of methamphetamine weighing a total of 80 grammes, as well as 45 grammes of cannabis, 5 grammes of cocaine, banknotes from various countries, valuables, utensils used for drug packaging, and a precision scale.

The four people were all taken to Ykan’s Paphos offices where the 21-year-old was released without charges pending scientific examinations. The 33-year-old was also released after nothing was found against her.

During questioning, the 25-year-old admitted that the drugs found on the balcony belonged to him and the 40-year-old, who were both arrested and placed in custody while Ykan investigations continue.
