Police arrest 18-year-old in connection to alleged child porn case

The case is being investigated by the Cybercrime unit.(CNA)

Police arrested an 18-year-old man on Sunday in relation to an alleged case of acquisition or possession of child pornography, and its distribution, dissemination or transmission.

A police announcment stated that the investigation began after information reached the police through Europol, the Cyprus News Agency (CNA) reported.

According to the information, an internet user allegedly owned, produced, or distributed child pornography material.

Following investigations by the police’s Cybercrime unit, the details of the 18-year-old suspect were verified, and an arrest warrant was obtained against him, and he was detained for the purpose of the police investigation.

The report stated that police discovered and seized five computers – two of which were laptops and a third being a Tablet, as well as a hard disk and two portable electronic storage units – USB , a memory card, three mobile phones, and a smart-watch, in the suspect’s possession at his residence, as well as in a second house where he occasionally resides.

From a preliminary examination carried out by the police on the suspect’s telephone, files with material of sexual abuse of minors were identified.
