A total lunar eclipse will be partially visible from Cyprus at the setting of the moon at dawn on Monday, May 16t.

According to an announcement from 1010 Asteroskopeion LTD, the moon will enter the Earth’s shadow at 4:32 am and will gradually begin to be slightly shaded while at a height of about 11 degrees above the western horizon.

At 5:27 am the moon will enter the main part of the Earth’s shadow and will be just two degrees above the horizon with sunrise happening just a few minutes later at 5:42 am.

According to the announcement, lunar eclipses occur when the moon enters the shadow that Earth casts into space. The shadow of the Earth is divided into two parts: the penumbra which is the fainter outer part, and the umbra, which is the darker central part.

When the moon passes through the shadow, the shadow is less intense and easier to capture photographically. The phenomenon can be visible to the naked eye but to observe it you need an open and clear low western horizon.

Due to the low height of the moon, next Monday’s eclipse will be particularly photogenic and suitable for photography in combination with the landscape.
