Exhibition inspired by 10 educational notebooks

1

Ten notebooks are the basis of an ongoing exhibition at Gloria Gallery.

The notebooks, part of the Ten Educational Notebooks – Ayios Georgios Peyia exhibition, were compiled by former members of the Greek Archaeological Mission to Ayios Georgios Peyias and associate teachers under the supervision of the Department of Antiquities and sponsored by the Anastasios G. Leventis Foundation. The decision to present them in an exhibition is due to their original and spontaneous creativity, multi-faceted content and artistic composition.

What is of great significance about them is that they contain questions and motivate educational activities on the monumental topography of Ayios Georgios, an understanding of early Christian architecture, the role of light and the columns in the structural design as well as the reading of decorative shapes. They also include details about the geometric and theological interpretation of mosaic floors, the reconstruction of everyday life at Cape Drepanon before the Arab invasions of the 7th century, and the richness of the flora and fauna of the place.

In addition, artworks by painters and teachers Rinos Stefani and Susan Vargas enrich the Notebooks and they will be of particular interest to teachers and professors of various specialities, parents and groups who enjoy unforgettable excursions.
