Police on Wednesday arrested a 29-year-old man accused of allegedly stealing two gold-plated candlesticks of unknown value from the Ayia Theodora church in Mouttagiaka

According to the police, the theft was reported earlier on Wednesday by a 43-year-old man working at the church. Further investigations revealed that the perpetrator entered the premises from the main entrance and that he also attempted to rob the donation box.

The man was later arrested while driving his vehicle on the Nicosia-Limassol motorway.

The candlesticks were found in a bag on the back seat of his car, as well as two screwdrivers.

They were eventually returned to the church while the man will have to answer to accusations of burglary and theft.
