Big band sounds

“Time to get encapsulated by the sounds of the big band,” says Sarah’s Jazz Club as it gets ready to welcome the Mendonis Big Band, a jazz ensemble of 15 musicians that will take over the stage this Thursday.

The jazz big band is a project that was founded by Petros Mendonis who is also responsible for the arrangements and musical compositions. The idea behind the project is to have original compositions and to promote authenticity with new sounds. The music that will be presented is a combination of various rhythms used in jazz as well as rich harmonic content with storytelling melodies.

The Mendonis Big Band consists of various saxophones, and brass instruments as well as a firm rhythm section of drums, piano, bass, guitar and percussions, accompanied by unique orchestrations, producing musical experiences not regularly heard in Cyprus.

The following evening will continue with live jazz, this time welcoming on stage Sarah Fenwick, the owner of the jazz club. Accompanied by Alexis Kasinos on guitar and Costas Challoumas on bass, the trio will perform all-time jazz classics to transport audiences back into the smoky, underground bars of Harlem.
