Limassol hospital

A 32-year-old man died on Friday morning after the vehicle he was driving overturned on the Troodos-Limassol road close to the village of Moniati.

Greek national Athanasios Tsiamis, who lived in Nicosia, was driving an articulated lorry carrying bottled water.

According to Marios Charalambous, a member of Limassol’s traffic police, who was present at the scene, at some point on the road before Moniati, at a right turn and under circumstances under investigation, the driver lost control of his vehicle, causing it to overturn and be dragged along the road, only coming to a halt on impact with a concrete wall.

As a result of the impact, the driver was crushed by the vehicle and fatally injured. Tsiamis was pronounced dead on arrival by doctors at Limassol General Hospital.

Charalambous said police are examining whether the driver was wearing a seat belt, while the vehicle will undergo a mechanical examination.
