AglanJazz is back

aglanjazz

Come July and the island’s favourite jazz festival will return. As with every other year, the old square of Aglanjia in Nicosia will flood with musicians, bands from Cyprus and abroad, and chairs and cushions on the floor as jazz lovers fill the square. A quaint central corner of the neighbourhood will once again transform into a lively jazz hub for two days.

Although the programme for this year’s festival, on July 6 and 7, has not been announced yet, it is usually varied and entertaining.

AglanJazz was established by the Municipality of Aglanjia in 2007 to showcase local and European jazz musicians. It’s an annual festival, held for two days, usually at the beginning of July in the old square. AglanJazz presents diverse jazz expressions, and it hosts six bands every year, from various countries.

“Throughout these years,” say organisers, “the festival has managed to introduce jazz to Cypriot audiences, and to encourage people of all ages and various backgrounds, to enjoy live performances from talented musicians from around the world, free of charge. It has gradually become a highly anticipated summertime festival, by both the musicians and our loyal fan base, attracting about 4,500 visitors every year.”
