The government is evaluating which targeted measures it could employ to alleviate the pressure faced by the most vulnerable sections of society amid rising prices, government spokesman Marios Pelekanos said on Monday.

He further added that the government is awaiting to see how the European Council acts in the coming days and, depending on the measures taken, the state must consider its impacts.

In statements to the media at the presidential palace, Pelekanos reiterated that the government has a delicate balancing act to undertake to provide targeted assistance to those most in need while not threatening state coffers or future revenue.

The overall message on Monday appears to be that there is more that the government can do to try and assist but that the European and wider global factors must also be considered.
