Boat carrying irregular migrants spotted off Limassol, moves on of own volition (Updated)

A boat carrying irregular migrants was spotted in the sea area west of Limassol on Monday morning.

The incident was confirmed by the British Bases of Akrotiri which was monitoring the situation, CNA reported.

The initial reports spoke of 100 passengers aboard the vessel.

A British Bases spokesperson told Cyprus Mail that a vessel temporarily stopped off the coast of Akrotiri int the morning and that two individuals disembarked to seek medical assistance.

At no point did any passengers claim asylum or indicated that they were in distress. Humanitarian assistance was provided by SBA and by the Republic’s authorities before the vessel departed of its own volition.
