Police logo used in latest scam

Police on Wednesday warned the public of a new email scam that uses the force’s logo and asks users to pay alleged fines.

Several people have recently complained they received a misleading email, falsely claiming to be from the Cyprus police, telling them they are involved and should be charged with various criminal offences, a police announcement said.

Scammers later request receivers to pay for an alleged fine.

The announcement explained that the emails, which also bear the logos of the Cyprus police, are sent from fake email addresses.

Police called on the public to be particularly careful and not to respond to any such messages.

They also urged people to confirm any outstanding issues with the police through the relevant official contact details.
