Flood protection works to close streets in old Nicosia

Flood protection works in the old town of Nicosia will continue next week, the municipality said on Thursday waning that two roads would be closed.

Works will affect Achilleos and Areos streets during phase B of the ongoing project for the purpose of installing a new network of rainwater culverts, sewerage and reconstruction works for pavements.

The work is expected to take two months.

As part of the works, the above roads will remain closed. From Trikoupi Street, the left turn to Achilleos Street will not be allowed, while traffic to Xanthis Xenierou Street will continue as normal.

Drivers are asked to follow the signs regarding detours.

Nicosia Municipality apologised for the inevitable inconvenience and called on the public to show the necessary understanding.

The project is co-funded by the Recovery and Resilience Plan.

Shopkeepers and residents in the old town have complained for years about flooding when there is heavy rain, which has seen the municipality implement a plan over the past five years to relieve the problem.
