Twelve irregular migrants arrive on speedboat

Police said on Sunday that a speedboat carrying 12 irregular migrants was spotted 14 nautical miles south-west of cape Greco on Saturday.

According to police the boat travelling at high speed, showed up on radar at 3.40pm.

Marine police travelled to the boat, finding 12 people on board, six men, two women and four children, all Syrians.

They were given clearance to come ashore at 2am on Sunday. The 12 people were transferred to a police vessel and brought ashore around 4am.

“All appropriate procedures were followed and the 12 persons were taken by bus to the Pournara reception centre,” police said.
