The fire service responded to ten calls for help on Tuesday, due to the strong winds and rain earlier in the day, spokesman Andreas Kettis said.

According to Kettis, the service responded to cases that involved the downed trees and power-lines.

He said in one instance a downed power-line set fire to a palm tree, which was extinguished by the fire service.

Three teams worked on the calls in the Nicosia area, from Acropolis and Lakatamia, and further assistance was given by the volunteer group ‘SupportCy’.

The affected areas were Anthoupoli, Deftera, Psimolofou, Pera Orinis, Episkopio, and Tseri.
