Over 12 kilos of rubbish were picked up off the protected Lara Beach over the weekend, according to an announcement by the Cyprus Green movement.

The movement said the 12kg contained over 700 pieces of plastic. It was collected in one hour by members of the Green Youth, the Center for Social Innovation, and the RESET Cy organisation.

Plastic waste accounted for 93 per cent of the rubbish collected at the beach.

Lara Beach is a key breeding ground for Green Turtles and Caretta-Caretta turtles.
