Consensus for an upgrade to the pay scales for police officers and firefighters was reached on Thursday between workers unions and the finance ministry.

Unions Pasydy, Sak and Sypyk said that Finance Minister Constantinos Petrides assured them that the intended pay scale upgrade of the ranks of special police officers, police officers and firefighters to the rank of senior lieutenant and the corresponding ranks of the fire brigade has been accepted and the agreed arrangements will be included in the 2023 budgets with a view to their implementation.

According to the press release, the unions “express the certainty that the parliamentary parties that had been in favour of the request over time will vote in favour of the relevant provisions of the budget. At the same time, it is noted that the ministry of justice is already dealing with the amendment of the relevant regulations with the aim of submitting them to parliament for a vote,” it concluded.
