Police in Paphos on Thursday were searching for a man suspected of having attacked his 23-year-old roommate with a knife.

Local police spokesman Michalis Nicolaou said the incident occurred on Wednesday night.

At 9pm, police were called to the Paphos general hospital after the 23-year-old man was brought in with lacerations to his right temple and lip.

The man told police that he had argued with his roommate, who then pulled a kitchen knife and attacked him.

Police said the fight was over a mobile phone the suspect had let the victim borrow. The 23-year-old returned the phone, but according to police, the suspect claimed the phone did not work properly.

The 23-year-old will remain in the hospital for further testing.

Police said they are still searching for the suspect.
