A man found with 70 cartons of cigarettes and 13.75kg of shisha tobacco in addition to nine boxes of heated cigarettes for which duty had not been paid was on Sunday fined €8,000.

According to police, the items were found after a tip off led to a search of the 39-year-old’s home in Limassol.

The goods were confiscated and the man was arrested and was taken to the customs department for further investigation, as was his car.

He paid the fine and was released although his car was impounded until he pays an additional sum to be imposed at a later stage.
