Drunk driver hits electricity pole in Pyla, car overturns

Three people were taken to hospital early Saturday after a drunk driver crashed into an electricity pole in Pyla, police said.

Police arrived at the scene at around 5:30am, where they found a car overturned and landed on its side, which had previously hit an electricity pole, after the driver, 30, lost control.

The driver had been in the vehicle with two passengers. Upon crashing, the car overturned and caught fire.

All three managed to get out of the car and firefighters put out the blaze, while ambulances rushed the three people to Larnaca general hospital.

Following alcohol and drugs tests, the driver was released, while the other two individuals were kept in for further monitoring.

The driver registered 106μg instead of the allowed 22μg on the alcohol test.
