Two deaths, more than 2,700 new Covid infections in past week

The health ministry on Friday announced two Covid-19 deaths and 2,755 positives for the past week, while there are 42 people in hospital categorised as Covid-19 patients.

The deaths, both men – aged 73 and 78, raise the total deaths attributed to Covid-19 to 1,191.

This week’s positives were identified following 66,040 tests having been carried out, a positivity rate of 4.17 per cent.

Rapid tests accounted for the bulk of the checks – at 63,804 – and yielded 2,593 positives, at a rate of 4.06 per cent.

PCR tests totaled 2,236 with 162 returning positive, at a rate of 7.25 per cent.
