Christmas is a season full of magic and wonder as the decorated streets and many festive events are there to remind us. One event happening just outside Nicosia arrives soon with a rather different mood, however, to share the wisdom stored in myth, rhythm and symbols. The Weaving Winter Songs and Stories event coming up on Sunday, December 18 at Pera Oreinis will be a morning of storytelling, rituals and marvel.
Hosted by Eleni Michail and Bogdan Romanica as part of the Weaving Songs and Stories project, which is funded by the Erasmus+ programme of the European Union, the free event will take place in English from 10.30am to 1.30pm. The Cultural Centre at Pera Oreinis will welcome participants with light brunch bites at 10am until the event begins half an hour later.
Then Eleni from Cyprus and Bogdan from Romania will present stories in an ancestral manner, performing rhythms and songs and taking participants on a journey to connect with ancient wisdom, the earth and each other.
“The way to go forward sometimes is to go back,” say the organisers, “meaning to return and feed from the medicine that the ancestors have left for us, treasured in the ancient stories, primordial songs and the embodiment of archetypes. In the midst of the multiple crises upending life on Earth nowadays, and very close to the Darkest Day of the Year, there is a need for pausing, remembering and pursuing the sacred.”
The event is open to adults interested in personal and community development and is particularly beneficial to those who work with children, youth and adults. After the event, participants will receive educational material about using stories and songs developed in the framework of the European programme Weaving Songs and Stories.
