Explosives-related disturbance at Limassol school

File photo

A Limassol secondary school descended into chaos on Friday morning as groups of hooded youths threw Molotov cocktails, smoke bombs and firecrackers.

Police received a call at around 9am of disturbance at the school with officers arriving soon after. Once there, they confirmed that students from the school – along with outsiders – were causing trouble, ahead of a planned school trip to Kakopetria.

Soon after, hooded youths began throwing firecrackers and Molotov cocktails and causing a fire which lightly damaged a nearby parked car. The fire was put out by a bystander.

The group dispersed by the time the officers arrived at their location.

The police stated that they have received various items as evidence and their investigation is ongoing.
